Bio

Ulrich Boeckheler is the principal cellist of The No Name Pops and has been a cornerstone of pops music in Philadelphia for over 30 years. Before relocating to the U.S., he served as principal cellist of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Flanders in Belgium and Helmuth Rilling’s Bach Collegium Stuttgart. In Philadelphia, he has frequently performed with The Philadelphia Orchestra, Orchestra 2001, Network for New Music, and the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia. Ulrich is deeply committed to community engagement, regularly volunteering for free public performances and advocating for the continued presence of pops music in the city.

Beyond the Pops

Outside of his professional life, Ulrich is a devoted husband and father in a family deeply rooted in both music and professional excellence. His wife, Kai-Zu, is an oral surgeon with a successful practice in Center City, and their three children are all active young musicians. In his free time, Ulrich enjoys swimming, skiing, scuba diving, biking, and traveling with his family. He has a deep appreciation for the arts and is a proud graduate of the Barnes Foundation.
